Tambellini spent the 2015–16 American Hockey League season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he made his professional debut. Tambellini had a promising first season, scoring 17 goals and accruing 32 points in 74 games.
His entry-level contract with the Wolf Pack expired after his third season there without a qualifying offer being extended. On July 25, 2018, he signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Ottawa Senators while still a free agent.
Before being assigned to Belleville for the 2018–19 season, Tambellini attended his first Senators training camp.
