A former NFL cornerback, Jason Sehorn has had an unique route to the NFL. While his enthusiasm for the game has been extensively chronicled over the years, it is a lesser-known fact that Jason Sehorn was once selected to play baseball and was even put into the Chicago Cubs system. As it occurred, a scout drove by and saw Seahorn play. He was swift between the bases, was big, and more importantly, he was fast. So, Seahorn wound up spending a summer in West Virginia, playing for the Cubs’ rookie-league affiliate near the banks of the Ohio River in Huntington. But baseball was never the sport for Sehorn. When the summer ended, so did Sehorn’s career as an amateur baseball player and he moved on to the NFL.

Early Life:

Jason Heath Sehorn was born on the 15th of April, 1971 in Sacramento, California, United States. Jason came from a humble background. His father Mike Sehorn worked as a truck driver and his mother Nancy Hughes managed a beauty parlor in Saacremato. Jason was just two years old when his parents divorced and Nancy took on herself to raise him. Although Jason saw his father at varied intervals it altered throughout his junior high school years when he decided not to see him altogether. Jason grew up with his younger half-sibling Colby Alexander whom Nancy had from less than a year marriage to Mack Alexander.

Jason went to a private Christian school outside of Sacramento for his education. Then he went to Mount Shasta High School, where he played high school football for a year. He subsequently transferred to Shasta College, where he played college football for two seasons. Jason was a standout wide receiver, kick returner, and punt returner for Shasta College. He then transferred to the University of Southern California, where he was switched to safety owing to a lack of wide receiver skill on the team.

Professional Background

Jason was picked by the New York Giants in the 1994 NFL Draft after playing his final two years at USC. When asked about the moment he found out, Jason said,

“It was just a very awesome experience. To be that 21-year-old kid sitting in your living room and having these head coaches of NFL teams and the GM telling you ‘we just drafted you, you’re going to be on a plane headed out to New York. I was like, ‘this is awesome.’”

Injury

Jason was a cornerback for the Giants for the majority of his career. Jason experienced a persistent knee problem after his spectacular back-to-back great seasons in 1996–97. During the opening kickoff of a 1998 preseason game against the New York Jets, he tore his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. Sehorn recovered and returned the following season, but his speed had taken a toll. When the Giants competed in Super Bowl XXXV, Sehorn again made an appearance on the big stage.

Sehorn signed with the St. Louis Rams as a safety after being released by the Giants on March 7, 2003. However, Jason was unable to enjoy the season due to a series of injuries. Jason retired after failing a fitness test for the 2004 season and was released by the Rams. Sehorn currently works for the Hendrick Automotive Group in Charlotte as the Director of Communications. In 2005, he joined Fox Sports Net as an analyst.
