Jorge Labarga, a justice of the Florida Supreme Court, was born on October 21, 1952, and has recently made headlines after pro-abortion activists urged Floridians to vote against justices John Couriel, Charles Canady, Jamie Rutland Grosshans, and Ricky Polston, who are on the ballot with him.
Justice of the Florida Supreme Court Bio of Jorge Labarga
According to Tampa Bay, the Hillsborough Democratic Party advises voting “no” on the November 8 ballot to keep Justices John Daniel Couriel, Jamie Grosshans, Ricky Polston, and Charles T. Canady, four of the five state Supreme Court justices, and “yes” to keep Justice Jorge Labarga.
Let us tell you that the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling from last June, which gave states back control over abortion rights, was heartbreaking and inconvenient for many Floridians and Americans. Then, if re-elected this year, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis expressed interest in making abortions illegal throughout the state, and the Florida Supreme Court demonstrated its commitment to further limiting abortions.
Age & Birth Information
Jorge Labarga was born on October 21, 1952, in Havana, the capital of Cuba, to his mother Miriam Labarga and father Jorge Labarga Sr. He spent his childhood there with his brothers Eddie Labarga and Aramais Labarga.
Jorge Labarga, one of the well-known judges of the Florida Supreme Court today, had a difficult childhood because, from 1952 to 1959, Cuba was ruled by the despot Fulgencio Batista, and at that time, his father had been repeatedly detained by the previous dictatorship because he was, quite rightly, suspected of supporting the Castro revolution.
As the family’s situation deteriorated, Jorge’s father made the decision to relocate them. Thanks to his father’s efforts, the family’s applications to immigrate to the United States were approved after their relocation to the country, where they initially found growing up in the small town of “Pahokee” strange.
When Labarga entered the fourth grade at Pahokee, he had no knowledge of the English language. However, after six months, he was writing and speaking it well enough to keep up, and he graduated from Forest Hill High School in West Palm Beach in 1972. He then went on to the University of Florida to earn his Bachelor’s degree in political science and his Juris Doctorate.
Jorge joined the 15th Judicial Circuit in 1979 after earning his Juris Doctor, serving as a “assistant public defender” there from 1979 to 1982. From there, he changed his title to “assistant state attorney,” and three years later, in 1987, he started concentrating on personal injury trial work for “Wagner, Nugent, Johnson, Roth, Romano & Erikson.”
Jorge’s life began to change when former Florida governor Lawton Chiles appointed him to the 15th Judicial Circuit circuit court in 1996. He held that position until 2008, when former Florida governor Charlie Crist appointed him to the Fourth District Court of Appeal and then to the Florida Supreme Court the following year.
