In 2004, Justin Peters signed a contract with the Caroline Hurricanes to begin his professional career.
For Justin, who had always wanted to play in the NHL, it was a dream come true, but it didn’t last long. Finally, Justin was sent to the Albany River Rats, an AHL affiliate of the Hurricanes.
Justin began his professional career in 2006–07 with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League, despite being selected in the NHL entry draft (AHL).
Justin was quite disappointed, which may have contributed to his poor league performance. Justin’s demotion to the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) in 2007–08 made matters worse.
Based on his subsequent performance, he was again promoted to River acts for the 2008–09 season. Justin was once more giving his all while playing for the Albany River Rats.
But after six years, Justin finally returned to his rightful position. The Caroline Hurricanes called Justin in 2010 to fill in for one of their ailing players.
On February 6, 2010, Justin finally made his long-awaited NHL debut with the Carolina Hurricanes. He made 34 saves in his first game against the New York Islanders, a 34-save performance that helped his team win 3-1.
After his contract with the Caroline Hurricanes expired, Justin considered about joining another team rather than extending it. Justin played for the Caroline Hurricanes for eight seasons.

In 2018–19, he transferred to the Czech Extraliga, where he played for BK Mlada Boleslav and Bili Tygri Liberec.

Justin said that the COVID pandemic played a significant role in his decision. He had originally intended to retire following the 2020–21 season, but the pandemic forced the postponement of the games.
Justin wanted to pursue other hobbies since he thought his hockey career might be in threat. Peters was also always thinking about coaching as his retirement drew near.
Peters stated his excitement about taking on the role of coach. He says this is a great chance for him to impart the other players with his years of experience and knowledge.
Peters is currently working for Troy Mann, who was his coach while he was a player. Peters claims that despite being a rookie coach, he is given the opportunity to make decisions, voice his thoughts, and truly feel like a member of the coaching staff.
