Megan Kathleen Hilty, an actress and singer, was born in the United States on March 29, 1981. She rose to fame thanks to her performances on Broadway in Noises Off, Doralee Rhodes in 9 to 5, and Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked. In addition, she portrayed Liz on the sitcom Sean Saves the World and Ivy Lynn on the musical drama series Smash, for which she sang the Grammy-nominated song “Let Me Be Your Star.”

Megan Hilty was born in Bellevue, Washington, the daughter of Donna and Jack Hilty. When she was 12 years old, she began taking lessons since she was so passionate about singing opera. Her education began at Sammamish High School in Bellevue, continued at Washington Academy of Performing Arts Conservatory High School in Redmond, and was completed at Chrysalis School in Woodinville.
She graduated from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 2004 and is a member of Actors’ Equity Association. She most recently received the Excellence in Musical Theater Award from the National Society of Arts and Letters.

BroadwayWorld is in grief following the deaths of Megan Hilty’s sister Lauren and her unborn child, brother-in-law Ross Mickel, and niece Remy Mickel in a weekend plane accident.
Hilty auditioned for the role of Elphaba in the musical Wicked just before she received her degree from Carnegie Mellon University. She moved to New York City after receiving her degree, where she made her Broadway debut in August 2004 as Glinda the Good Witch’s backup, and subsequently replaced Jennifer Laura Thompson in the role on May 31, 2005.
On May 28, 2006, Hilty left the role she had held for a year, and Kate Reinders took over. During the first national tour of the show, which took place from September through December of 2006, she took Kendra Kassebaum’s place in the part. Soon after, on February 10, 2007, the Los Angeles sit-down performance, which made its debut on February 21, 2007, began with previews. In this play, Hilty created the character. Erin Mackey took her place on May 18, 2008, however on January 11, 2009, she returned to complete the show after departing on October 31, 2008.

Hilty performed the lead in the world premiere of the musical Vanities at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts in Mountain View, California. In addition to her work onstage, Hilty has appeared as a guest star on various television shows, such as The Closer, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Ugly Betty, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Desperate Housewives, and Shark. She gave the singing voice of Snow White for the animated film Shrek 3 in 2003.
Alongside Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block, and Marc Kudisch, Hilty was a cast member of the 2008 musical 9 to 5 that was based on the 1980 movie of the same name. On September 9, 2008, Joe Mantello launched the pre-Broadway run at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. Hilty had previously portrayed Doralee Rhodes in readings and workshops (the role Dolly Parton had played in the film adaptation).

In advance of the musical’s debut on April 30 and its closing on September 6. For her work in this musical, Hilty received accolades from a number of award-giving bodies, including the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance, and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical.
Hilty portrayed a fast food manager who helped with a murder investigation at Choozy’s Chicken in the 2009 CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode “Deep Fried and Minty Fresh.” She appeared in two episodes of Desperate Housewives as Carlos’s boss’s love interest. Additionally, in December 2009 at the Boston Court Performing Arts Center, Hilty worked with Lesli Margherita, Steve Kazee, Morgan Karr, Natalie Weiss, and others on Rated RSO: The Music and Lyrics of Ryan Scott Oliver.
Hilty has launched a new beverage division that has expanded into the coffee and tea sectors. In the 2010 animated feature Dorothy of Oz, Hilty was cast as the China Princess. In 2011, she joined Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, and Brian d’Arcy James on the cast of the NBC musical drama Smash.  The show’s first episode, which launched a two-season run, aired on February 6, 2012.

Hilty appeared in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which was a staged performance that was a part of the Encores! series in May 2012. She portrayed Lorelei Lee alongside Brennan Brown, Simon Jones, and Rachel York. Hilty’s performance was compared favorably by The New York Times to those of Carol Channing and Marilyn Monroe.
The inclusion of Hilty on the Rob Rokicki album I’m Ready: The Songs was revealed in November 2012. Hilty’s debut solo album, which has the same name, was released on March 12th, 2013. On June 13, 2013, Hilty joined the cast of the well-known NBC comedy Sean Saves the World. Hilty would reprise her role as Brooke Ashton in the Noises Off production by the Roundabout Theatre Company, it was revealed in July 2015.
Hilty received three nominations for her performances onstage: Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play at the Drama Desk Awards, Distinguished Performance at the Drama League Awards, and Best Featured Actress in a Play at the Tony Awards. In the same year, she made a cameo as Charlene on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. At Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, Hilty performed on stage alongside Matthew Morrison and The New York Pops on July 7.
In NBC’s Annie Live!, it was announced in November 2021 that Hilty will replace Jane Krakowski as Lily St. Regis. Krakowski was forced to abandon the production after finding a novel COVID-19 case.
Steve Kazee was an actor Hilty dated from 2005 to 2012. On November 2, 2013, Hilty married actor Brian Gallagher in Las Vegas, Nevada. In March 2014, she announced that she was expecting the couple’s first child. Hilty gave birth to a child named Viola Philomena Gallagher on September 18, 2014. On September 24, 2016, she announced that she was carrying another child. Their son, Ronan Laine Gallagher, was born on March 13, 2017.
On September 4, 2022, Hilty lost her pregnant sister, brother-in-law, and niece in a plane crash in Puget Sound.
