Biography (Family)
Romeo Santos was born on July 21, 1981, in the Bronx, to a Dominican father who worked as a construction worker and a Puerto Rican mother. Laura, his older sister, was his personal trainer when he was younger.
Santos entered a church choir at the age of 13 and discovered his singing abilities, despite his family’s weak economic situation and inadequate resources to survive. He began singing in the streets and became well-known among Dominican-American teenagers.
He rose through the ranks of the band Aventura to become its lead vocalist. One of their songs from the album Obsession’ broke the charts in 2002, establishing them as one of New York’s most well-known young groups. In 2009, the band was invited to play for US President Barack Obama at the White House.
The band, however, disbanded in 2011, and Romeo began a solo career. He currently has four albums under his belt: Formula, Vol. 1 (which topped the Hot Latin Songs and Tropical Songs charts in 2012), Formula, Vol. 2 (which was the best-selling Latin album in 2014), Golden (2017), and Utopia (2017).
