Ted Mcginley Career

Ted’s acting career began after a casting director spotted a picture of him in GQ. This made him feature on the comedy series Happy Days as Roger Phillips as his first-ever role to play. The comedy series aired from 1980-1984. Furthermore, he later landed a role in the comedy film Young Doctors in Love in 1982 during the shoot of Happy Days. Moving on,  McGinley appeared in Revenge of the Nerds where he played Stanley Gable.

By that time his popularity was just beginning to grow. Therefore he was given an antagonist role of the Lambda Lambda Lambda nerd fraternity. After a few years, Ted reprised the role in the third and fourth movies in the Nerds franchise. Later on, Ted appeared in regular roles on television series including The Love Boat and Dynasty.

The following year he was given another role of Al Bundy’s best friend Jefferson D’Arcy on Married… with Children from 1991 to 1997. His performance in the series made him become a world-class sensation where he described it as one of the greatest gigs he has ever done. From there Ted became recognized and was given other recurring roles on Aaron Sorkin’s television series Sports Night  Gordon and The West Wing as a television news anchor.

From 2003-2006, he played Charley Shanowski on Hope & Faith. Two years later, he was selected for a role in Charlie Lawrence, a situation comedy about a freshman congressman from New Mexico, played by Nathan Lane. Since then he has become popular and has worked on various films.

From there Ted grew his popularity by playing the villainous role of Stan Gable in the film Revenge of the Nerds. McGinley is also the son of Bob and Emily McGinley. His parents are of Irish descent. Ted used to attend classes at Newport Harbor High School. This is where he focused on Athletics and Swimming and a star player in the water polo team.

Later on, he also worked as a lifeguard at the beach during summers. After graduation, McGinley attended USC on a water polo scholarship where he majored in urban planning and real estate. Ted also became captain and two-time MVP of the water polo team.  This responsibility was accompanied by his membership in the Sigma Chi fraternity.

Although, in his sophomore year,  McGinley began modeling as a way to break into the acting scene. Due to his non-renewed scholarship, Ted dropped out of USC and moved to New York in 1979.
