Tim Armstrong is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and producer known for his distinctively harsh and deep voice. He currently performs as the lead singer and guitarist for the punk rock groups Transplants and Rancid. Tim was a founding partner in the creation of Hellcat Records in 1997. He has worked as a lyricist with musicians like Pink and Jimmy Cliff, for whom he won a Grammy.

While his mother’s name is still unknown to the general public, his father, Don Armstrong, passed away in 2012 at the age of 81. When Tim was five years old, he played Little League Baseball in Albany, California, where he met Matt Freeman. The two later formed a band.

Tim attended Albany Middle School for his elementary education. Then, he registered for classes at Albany High School, where he completed his high school education. After graduating from high school, he decided to pursue a career in music rather than complete his schooling.

In 1985, Tim and Matt Freeman, a former classmate, formed the band Basic Radio. Despite not putting out any albums or EPs, they did record demos before breaking up. He co-founded a different Operation Ivy band in 1987; they split up in 1989 after releasing their debut record.

Armstrong and Freeman founded a new Dance Hall Crashers group in 1989. The band’s members were Grant Mclntire, Erik Larsen, Andrew Champion, and Joel Schaaf. They opened their doors at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley in 1989. Soon after for various personal reasons, Tim and Freeman left. Although they only lasted three months, they both joined the band Downfall.

With nine albums released, Rancid is one of the most successful punk rock bands ever. The band has enjoyed tremendous success since its inception. They include Honor Is All We Know, Trouble Maker, Indestructible, Life Won’t Wait, and Let’s Go.

A Poet’s Life, Armstrong’s debut solo album, was a great hit when it was released in 2007. The most often requested and aired song on Fungus 53 radio was the song Into Action. Joe Walsh, Jimmy Cliff, and Pink have all had songs he’s written and produced. Tim has worked with musicians like Mest, Bad Religion, Box Car Racer, and The Matches.

In addition to The X-Files, Larry Is Dead, and The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, he has performed in Larry Is Dead as an actor. He was the producer of Larry Is Not Dead, Punk’s Not Dead, and Give ‘Em the Boot.
