Tom Joyner had already participated in college radio, but he had never thought about making it a job. He held positions at a number of stations across the region before relocating to Chicago in 1978.

His initial position was at WVON in Chicago, but he soon departed to work at WBMX-FM, a competing station. However, he switched to WJPC-AM in favor of another station. This station was owned by the publisher of the black magazine “Jet and Ebony.”

In 1985, Tom Joyner received two employment offers at the same time. One was in Chicago, and the other was in a Dallas train station. It’s interesting that Tom Joyner decided to take both instead of just one, and he used to fly between the two locations every day.

He repeated that for eight years. He obtained a contract with ABC radio in 1994. His nationally syndicated program, “The Tom Joyner Morning Show,” debuted with this episode. His program featured a roster of humorists and analysts who spoke on news, sports, and entertainment.

On his broadcast, he primarily played rock and blues music. Additionally, there were special visitors, and the event’s sponsor, Southwest Airlines, offered out regular round-trip tickets to any place the airline flies. Additionally, he made an appearance on “The Tom Joyner Show,” a program that was broadcast nationally in 2005.
